Lip Blush Pre-Treatment Instructions

Following these instructions will positively affect your treatment and how quickly you heal.
Also, get plenty of rest and drink lots of water to hydrate prior to your
Lip Blush treatment.

ANTIVIRAL MEDICATION:

If you are prone to cold sores/fever blisters or have HSV Type 1, we require you to take anti-viral medication for a minimum of 5 days (2 days prior to procedure, 1 day-of, and 2 days post-procedure).  Developing a cold sore after a Lip Blush treatment can lead to infection and/or scarring.  Contact your doctor and inform them of your decision to have permanent lip blushing and obtain prescription strength anti-viral medication. You must bring your prescription proof dated a minimum of 2 days prior to your appointment.

OTHER HEALTH CONDITIONS:

  • If you have any existing medical condition that requires for you to take blood thinners, please consult your physician to see if you can stop taking them for one week prior to your Lip Blush appointment and bring your doctor’s written consent with you to your appointment.
  • People with heart conditions or high blood pressure should also consult with their physician about the use of over-the-counter topical Lidocaine based numbing cream which is used during the Lip Blush treatment. Provide written consent from your doctor to use OTC numbing cream.
  • If you think you might be pregnant, please re-schedule your treatment.
  • If possible, and for your comfort, schedule your Lip Blush treatment when you are not on your menstrual cycle. Your body is more prone to swelling and bleeding during this time.

COSMETIC TREATMENTS:

  • LIP IMPLANTS – Wait six months after lip implant and get written clearance from your surgeon. ___
  • LIP FILLERS/INJECTIONS – Must wait a minimum 6 months after lip fillers and 6 weeks after touch-up. Even after 6 weeks, it is still possible to have poor color retention on lips that have had injections within 6-12 weeks.
  • HYALURONIC PENWait two weeks after a hyaluronic pen treatment to book your Lip Blush treatment, so your lips are not bruised or swollen.
  • RETIN-A/AHA – Discontinue Retin-A or Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) for 6 weeks before treatment.
IMMEDIATELY BEFORE TREATMENT:
  • No alcohol, caffeine or other stimulants for 48 hours; bleeding pushes out pigment!
  • For those who must, begin antiviral medication two days before or as directed by your doctor.
  • No aspirin, Niacin, Vitamin E, Advil or Ibuprofen for 48 hours before treatment.
  • Avoid Fish Oil, Primrose Oil, Prenatal Vitamins, Nutritional Shakes (Shakeology, etc.), “Hair, Skin, Nail” supplements for a minimum of 48 hours before treatment.
  • Do not exercise or go to the gym for 48 hours before treatment.
  • Brush and floss your teeth thoroughly prior to your appointment, you might not want to brush your teeth the day of your procedure due to the swelling of your lips.
  • Stay hydrated and keep your lips thoroughly moisturized, chapped lips do not hold pigment well!

Lip Blush Aftercare Instructions

IMPORTANT:

Your lips will be very bright for a first few days and the color will fade up to 50% in the first week.

Your lips will also feel very thick and swollen and will shrink in the next 24-48 hours.

Should an infection occur, please seek medical attention.

IMMEDIATELY AFTER TREATMENT:

  • Complete your antiviral medication as directed by your doctor, to prevent an outbreak.
  • For swelling, use a cool ice pack Place chilled gel packs (from refrigerator only) in brand new plastic baggies before you place over the swollen area to prevent any infection or moisture contact. Never put ice directly on the lip area.
  • Do not touch your lips!! No fingertips, towels, make-up and make-up tools, etc.  Use only the supplies in the After Care kit provided or clean Q-tips until you can buy more supplies.
  • Apply ointment (gently dab) on the lips every 4-5 hours (or 3 times a day) for 7-10 days. It is normal to see pigment on your swab or Q-tip after applying ointment.
  • Do not allow your lips to become completely dry or feel tight.

EATING AND DRINKING:

  • Use a straw for liquids, especially hot liquids like soup and coffee for 10 days.
  • Eat small bites of food using a fork. Do not wipe your lips with a napkin or lick your lips.  Use a wet cotton pad to gently dab your lips after your meal or snack. Avoid salty or spicy foods for the first 7 days post treatment.

TEETH BRUSHING, SHOWERS AND SLEEPING:

  • Before brushing your teeth, seal lips with ointment first. Brush carefully, use only a small amount of toothpaste. No whitening toothpaste for 4 weeks. Use a straw to get water to swish with. Do not use any products containing peroxide or bleach/whiten your teeth while your lips for 4 weeks.
  • For the first week, sleep on your back. Sleeping on your back avoids contact with your pillow, which can lead to irritation and faster shedding of skin which can cause loss of pigment. Using a travel neck pillow can help keep you comfortably on your back.
  • Avoid Soaps and Creams around the lip area for 14 days. When showering or bathing, avoid putting your face directly under the shower-head stream.    Skin creams and products containing Retin-A, AHA, or any other kind of chemical peel must not be used directly on or near the lip area, as this will fade and possibly distort the color of your lips.

ACTIVITIES AND SUN EXPOSURE:

  • DO NOT stretch the lips. Avoid large bites of food, yawning, etc.
  • Avoid humid activities like swimming, hot tubs, baths, saunas, excessive sweating, facials, hot yoga and other extremely humid situations for a period of at least 3-4 weeks.
  • No smoking, kissing, rubbing or friction on your newly tattooed lips for 14 days or you may lose pigment. No waxing near the lip area!!
  • Do not expose the lips to direct sunlight/tanning beds for 4 weeks. After 4 weeks, sun block should be applied over lips with an SPF 50 recommended.
  • You may use brand new lipstick, lip gloss, and chapstick and makeup around the lips after 14 days. Do not apply used/old makeup to your lips until they are fully healed after 4 weeks.
  • Lips may get dry for 3-6 months, use a good quality lip moisture product to prevent chapping.
  • If you are planning a chemical peel, laser procedure or MRI scan, please inform your physician of your blush lip treatment.
